Having almost the whole team around the top 20 in GC (only the sprinter Gebka further back) the Mróz team decided to attack from the start. Not surprisingly, Piotr Przydzial made the first move, which cost him a few minutes deficit later in the stage, but he still gained two jerseys (mountains & sprints). The attack went after 12 kms with Dominique Rault & Gustavo Gomez for company and some time later an eight-man break formed. Przydzial went solo (despite a fall) and this time a six-man strong break including Frederic Bessy, Moreno di Biase, Miguel van Kessel, Grzegorz Rosolinski and Przemyslaw Mikolajczyk followed. After some 58 kms of undulating terrain the group encountered a five km ascent to Orlinek. In Karpacz Gûrny some 2.5 kms further Josep Pou Jufre & Bram Schmitz joined the leaders. At 124 km all strong men are together and Nozal & Petito broke away, after them went Rebollo & Trombetta. At the beginning of the last of five 21.7kms laps, Rumsas & Ferti were at the front and after them Wadecki with Nozal & a 10-man group slightly after them. In the final kilometres Mróz riders left their companions, with Zamana, who gained a few seconds on Jens Voigt, fastest of the group.
