1998 Results     Past Winners Brief: Mandel-Leie-Mandel (Meulebeke-Belgium) is a mixed derny race. The total distance is 195 kms. The first 100 kms is a conventional bike race. For the last 95 kms, the riders rode behind a derny. The race was held on a circuit in Meulebeke. Last year this race was Johan's first competition 146 days after his fall at Paris-Roubaix. He rode at an average of 60 km/h over the last 95 kms behind the derny. It was a good comeback for him. This year he went one better and won the race, his second for the season after he had won the Dwars door Belgie. He won narrowly from fellow Belgian Michel Van Haecke (Tönissteiner-Colnago) with Dutch rider Leon Van Bon (Rabobank) in third. Museeuw now will set his sights on Paris-Brussel, GP Fourmies, GP Isbergues, and then the Worlds in Verona. He is in form at the right time. Meulebeke, 195 kms: 1.
