Stage 2 - Bad Homburg v. d. Höhe - Alsfeld 166.5 kmsReport: Chicky World rider, Allan Johanssen (Den) retained his lead in the Hessen Rundfahrt after finishing 10th in today's stage, from Bad Homburg to Alsfeld. He now holds just a 2 second gap to Russian stage winner Eduard Gritsoun (Gerolsteiner), with the Tour of Lower Saxony winner, Matthias Kessler (Deutschland Strasse) in third spot overall. The adverse conditions which have marked this tour continued on this 166 km stage, with very strong winds and rain battering the peleton from the start. After 49 km of racing, a group of 20 formed, containing most of the top riders on GC. The rest of the field were not up to chasing them, and their lead grew to a huge 20 minutes. Heinrich Trumheller (Die Continentale/Olympia) attacked through the town of Betzenrod but was unable to gain more than a minute on the field. He was brought back on the finishing circuit and the winning trio of Gritsoun, Kessler, and Franz Stocher (Austria) formed. They finished the stage in that order, with a 9 second gap to Johannsson (10th), who will keep his yellow jersey. Tomorrow's third stage (192 kms) will be the longest of the tour, going from Alsfeld to Baunatal. Results: Stage 2 - Bad Homburg v. d. Höhe - Alsfeld 166.5 kms, AVS 42.24 kmh 1.
