Stage 4 - October 16 - Barwon Heads to Lorne, 69.8 kmsThe Ipso man comes cleanCourtesy of Brian Farrell The day started at Barwon heads, or should I say Pearl Bay of the Sea Change fame, with clear blue sky and blue water with a light sea breeze. Into the first 10 km English rider Chris Lillywhite (City of Melbourne) and Bart Heirewegh (Sunsmart) were riding out some 50 meters ahead of the field. As a little tidbit of info, Heirewegh's trade team this year has been the Ipso-Euroclean team in Belgium - a team sponsored by a washing machine manufacturer. Their machines can be found in laundromats everywhere and are used by many cyclists! Lillywhite took the first sprint as the race headed to Torquay and the start of the rolling hills of the Great Ocean Road. The field again split in two with attacks from the front becoming the norm. With approximately 15 km to go, Lillywhite made a lone break which nearly succeeded until seven other riders caught him with just 10 km to go. This break of eight riders beat the hard chasing bunch home by just 21 seconds, with Bart Heirewegh taking the sprint for the stage and Lillywhite a very convincing second place. Third was Czech rider, Tomas Konecny which gave him enough bonuses to put him in yellow, just in front of Heirewegh and Bo Larsen. Results
