Anton Villatoro, a Guatemalan riding for American team Seven Up (think lemonade, not slurpees), kept the white leader's jersey after the queen stage of the Vuelta a Guatemala.

The eighth stage was won by Guatemalan Fermín Mendéz, one second ahead of Colombian Luis Castañeda and home riders Fernando Escobar and Guillermo Torres, with Amílcar Gramajo five seconds behind. Mexican Miguel Arroyo lost 52 seconds, Guatemalan Hugo Lara 53, Colombian Mauricio Ardila 1.20 while his compatriot Alejandro Cortés came in at 2.34 with leader Villatoro, who now has a lead of 1.47 to stage winner Mendez in the GC.
