The pair worked together on the first lap with Juarez taking the lead in the more technical sections while McCormack used his road strength in the open sections. On the second lap, McCormack was dropped off, leaving Juarez to fend for himself for the next few laps. Meanwhile, Britain's Chris Eatough closing the gap with Chris Sheppard (Can) and the two managed to get near enough to Juarez for Eatough to bridge. He passed Juarez on the last lap, eventually winning by 1:10. Juarez hung on for second just under half a minute in front of Sheppard. The women's race was won by Melanie Dorian (Canada), who outsprinted breakaway companion Sue Haywood (Trek East Coast) after the pair had crashed on the second lap. Results: Men Elite: 1.
