Track: European Championships

Gent, Belgium, November 11, 1999

France has been dominating track cycling for the past few years, except in the six days. But the European Championships in Gent showed that there might be a future for France also on the winter tracks. Damien Pommereau and Robert Sassonne won the 50 kms Madison race with twice as many points as German silver medallists Müller and Wächter who were the only ones to remain on the same lap as the French.

For the professionals there was an event, the Flandrian Championships, which was a 40 km Madison. It was won by Frank Corvers and Lorenzo Lapage, who finally managed to get a lap on compatriots Paul van Hyfte - Manu l'Hoir, ahead of Danish-German duo Braikia and Dörich.
