Three pairs are on the same lap after the first night and are within four points of each other - a dramatic start to the six days of Gent. One lap behind are the Swiss favorites Risi and Betschart, who lost two laps in the final chase when Risi had to ride on his own. That chase was won by Spanish World Champions Llaneras and Galvez who finally seem to be in form. They are on the same lap as the Swiss but farther down on points. Also Kappes / Corvers as well as Villa / Lapage and Braikia / Collinelli are one lap behind the three leading pairs.
