After the second to last mountain stage, the yellow jersey has a new owner, but the Panamanians are hanging tough and want to give their local fans the overall victory.

Today's stage was won by Jorge Martinez (Col), who races for Bireto-Rali of Panama. Cesar Pinto lost the jersey and moved to third place and Alexis Caballero (who announced today that he will retire after 15 years in cycling because of a lack of financial support) is the new leader.

The decisive Stage 9 from David-Divala-Bugaba-Palo Santo-David will cover 146.5 kms and include 1,394 metres of climbing. This should decide who the overall winner of the Vuelta may be.
