Köln - Bonn, 199.1 kms:

34-year old German Jens Heppne (Deutsche Telekom) won the Rund um Köln (Grand Prix of Cologne) by a few seconds from Dutchman Raymond Meijs (Team Cologne) and teammate Kai Hundertmarck (Telekom).

25-year old Jan Ullrich and Erik Zabel finished back in the peloton at 3.46. For Heppner, the victory was the product of a long breakaway with Meijs and Hundertmarck - 100 kms in total.

The Rund um Köln is an important race for the Telekom team in their preparation for the Tour de France. For Ullrich and Zabel, the next races will be the Tour of Bavaria (May 20-24) and the new Tour of Germany (May 28-June 3).
