Gippingen, 10 x 19.6 kms laps, 196 kms:Romans Vainsteins beat Gabriele Missaglia and Slovenian Gozard in a three-up sprint to win the 36th GP Gippingen. The race also saw the re-entry to the racing peloton by Swiss rider Alex Zülle, after serving his suspension for drug taking. He was also in Banesto colours for the first time and came in 58th. He said he felt good at the start. During his suspension, the 31-year old Zülle rode 8000 kms and was well prepared. He said: "I am still about 2 kgs above my ideal racing weight. That will come of in the next weeks without doubt."
