PreviewThe last two winners of the Tour de France, Italian Marco Pantani (Mercatone Uno) and German Jan Ullrich (Telekom) are among the starters in the 26th edition of the Setmana Catalana, which starts Today.Pantani, who made a spectacular attack on the Cipressa during Milan-San Remo is contrasted to Ullrich, who is having problems with his health and form after a delayed start to the racing season. The German made his first appearance in a month at the Grand Prix Portugal Telecom, but did not complete the final stage. He abandoned 50 kms before the end of the 4th and last stage. Other big names to contest this Cat 2.1 race will be Laurent Jalabert (ONCE), Lance Armstrong (US Postal), Jose Maria Jimenez (Banesto), Santiago Blanco (Vitalicio Seguros), Fernando Escartin (Kelme), Melchor Mauri (Benfica) and the winner of last year's edition the in-form Dutchman Michael Boogerd (Rabobank). The race is over 763.2 kms and five stages. The parcours is less difficult than it was last year with fewer mountains and mountain-top finishes. The race will conclude on Friday with the traditional ITT on the Montjuic circuit at Barcelona.
