Men's Road Championship, Uppsala, 201 kms:Tomas Nilsson, cyclingnews.com's Scandinavian reporter writes that Team Wirsbo elite rider Sparr attacked at 60 kms in order to wear the pros out and give team mate Michael Andersson a chance with a late attack. But when Sparr was caught only ten reiders remained in the first group. The group shrank to seven and Crescent's Klas Johansson tried a late attack but waas caught 200 m before the line by Lafis who had to do the hard work in the end. He had Sparr on his wheel and Henrik managed to take the sprint one bike length ahead of defending champion Martin Rittel.

Her coach is Susanne Ljungskogs fiancé Klas Johansson, by the way. "Madde" Lindbergs goal for the season is the MTB World Championships in Åre, Sweden. "But I will ride the road championships too, if I'm selected, she said after the race."

On lap six of the eight laps of the last leg he and Eslövs U 23 rider Emil Arnell attacked. "Most of the guys in the peloton waited for Michel Lafis (TVM pro in Upsala team) to start the chase. We also had two other teams in the peloton to keep some control." says Lergård.With one lap to go the pair had nine seconds and managed to hold the peloton off with only a couple of meters! "I played it cool in the last climb and made Emil do the job. I was more worried about the sprinters in the peloton but we managed to hold them off." Among Lergårds merits this year are 16th in Ringerike GP Cat 2.5 and 28th in Postgirot Tour of Sweden Cat 2.4. Look out! Look out also for the teams junior rider Petter Renäng who raced the first leg with all the Elite riders. Petter is in his third cycling season only and dominates Swedish junior cycling. May I also add that he and the third member of the team, Rikard Karlsson, both are from Arvika, a lovely town in western Sweden known also for having produced most journalists per capita in Sweden! (Tomas is one of them!) Petters father Erland was in his day one of the most promising young riders in the country, two years younger than I but much faster than me! The relay is not the most serious of the championship races. It's raced over three legs on a circuit and at least one team member must be a junior or women rider. Several odd constellations appear. How about Kopparberg CK with the two Tönissteiner pros Kristoffer Johansen and Niclas Ekström teamed up with Credit Agricole-pro Magnus Bäckstedts little sister Cecilia! They came in last, but that was not her fault. Two other teams came in at the same time, one of them with Giro-hero Nicklas Axelsson. Pros on the last two placings!
