Report:

Sonia Rocca, the young rider from Bergamo from the Alfalum-William Aurora team which is leading the Giro won Stage 11. She is the cousin of famous golf champion Costantino Rocca and finally gave Italy another stage win in this 10th Giro d'Italia femminile. The stage started in front of the marvellous buildings in Fontaniva (Padova) which are made out of and around an old chimney. The day was expected to be very quite for pink jersey Joana Somarriba, now very close to the final win, but it was not the case as the Spaniard had to fight a lot to retain her grip on the race. As a result of heavy rain the downhill that followed the GPM of Conco was very risky and slippy. Pregnolato and Blazquez crashed. Somarriba decided to slow down and take no risk. Her position was so comfortable before the start of the stage that it was stupid to risk to lose the whole race for a few seconds. She never lost her mind even when 15 riders attacked including Boubnenkova and Sundstedt.

Somarriba stayed calm and worked hard to limit the loss to around a minute. The stage win went to her young team-mate Sonia Rocca. "My team gave me the opportunity to win and I am happy I was able to do it".

Tomorrow sees the 12th and last stage of the 10th Giro d'Italia Femminile. The pink jersey Somarriba and the whole bunch with start in Chiuppano and finish in Piovene Rocchette, in the province of Vicenza, a distance of 119 kms. Somarriba said: "Of course it's done now. But you know it's never finished till the very last metre. I prefer to wait for some more hours before showing everybody how happy I feel."
