Preview:

German Hanka Kupfernagel is the pre-race favourite in Lille to win Round 7 of the Women's World Cup - the Trophee International, a 122 kms race from Beauvois-en-Cambrésis (Nord) to Hirson (Aisne). Kupfernagel won round 4 and leads the overall standings by 29 points.

There are 150 riders entered from the race. The day after they will start in the Tour de France Féminin. The world cup race will be tough however because of the very selective parcours with 3 sectors of cobbles and a final climb. The peloton encounters the first section of pave after only 18 kms at Saint-Vaast-en-Cambrésis.

Disappointing for French fans will be the absence of Jeannie Longo. The highest placed French woman in the standings is Catherine Marsal (13th and 142 points in arrears). She won the women's points race at the French Track Championships on July 29.

Report:

Belgian Vanja Vonckx won the 7th round of the women's world cup in northern France over 122 kms between Beauvois-en-Cambrésis and Hirson. She won narrowly from German Judith Arndt and Australian Tracey Gaudry. The most aggressive rider of the day was Frenchwoman Catherine Marsal.

3 sectors of pave sorted the field out. The first came at km 18 and pre-race favourite and ranking's leader Hanka Kupfernagel, fell when her wheel went down a crack. She finished in 19th place but maintained her overall lead on the rankings. Tracey Gaudry closed the gap in third place and is now 47 points behind the German overall.
