Brussels, 3 laps for 68.8 kms:

Belgian Marc Wauters and Dutchman Erik Dekker were the fastest pair in the 20th GP Eddy Merckx held in Brussels over 68.8 kms. They easily beat the teams of Skibby/Streel and Boardman/Voigt.

Chris Boardman and Jens Voigt (Crédit Agricole) were the unbackable favourites for the honours but they were stricken by bad luck - each of them punctured. Boardman said afterwards: "At the moment I punctured in the last part of the race we were 25 seconds in front of Wauters and Decker. I did not panic. But the second puncture soon after for us was no doubt fatal."
