Maastricht Criterium

Brief:

The 15th edition of the Maastricht Criterium has not been able to get a really strong field. No top podium finishers from the Tour. Just yesterday (Tuesday) the one of the best Limburg riders Max van Heeswijk finally agreed on terms with the organisers. But so what! It has been very warm in the region of the last week - the Dutch have an official measure of a heatwave - the "hittegolf" - 5 consecutive days over 25 Celsius including 3 days above 30. In Australia it is called spring!

The parcours winds around the inner streets of Maastricht first turning left into Bredestraat, through Onze Lieve Plein, left into Het Bat and along the Maas via Kesselkade and Hoenderstraat, before circling the Market Square and the old city building, left then right into the Grote Gracht, then left, up the only minor rise and back along the Vrijthof to the finish line.
