Report:

Italian Massimo Donati (Vini Caldirola) who recently won the GP de Camaiore (August 4) repeated his success in the 53rd Coppa Agostini, the second race in the traditional Italian Tryptique in the month of August (Tre Valle Varèsines, Coppa Agostoni and the Coppa Bernocchi). Donati, won alone after attacking with great force in the last 5 kms with the help of his team-mate Francesco Casagrande, who while strong allowed Donati to move away.

Donati, acknowledging the help from Casagrande said: "Francesco is a very modest champion and he was equally strong today. The attack with 5 kms to go was planned before the race. I was to attack and my captain (Casagrande) was to cover the move."

Before ensuring that Donati got away successfully, Casagrande took his own chances and went away alone with around 25 kms to go but was soon brought back into the peloton. He said: "The finish was still a long distance to ride and I did not think I could reissue the challenge and attack again."
