PreviewCyrille Jolit from Yerres in France writes that the Ruban Granitier Breton is a UCI Cat 2.6 race held in the region of Bretagne in France. It is considered a very important race on the French amateur calendar. Bretagne is the most popular region in France for cycle racing and has spawned great riders like Bernard Hinault, Jean Robic, Louison Bobet and always a lot of excellent amateur riders.Stage 1, Lorient - Plouay, 85.5 kms:Stage 1 was won by the 25-year old Stéphane Corlay, who dedicated the victory to his brother Philippe who recently died from illness. He gave 12 riders the slip just 12 kms from the finish. The stage was held in heavy rain and strong winds. Second place went to Lithuanian Saulius Ruskis from the St-Quentin-Oktos-MBK and 3rd went to 23-year old Benoît Poilvet, who was on probation with the team Crédit Agricole in June 98 and over the winter of 1998-99.
