The UCI Classification Points Scales 1998

Introduction

The UCI maintains its rankings by attributing points to various events in each discipline. They are published in the Official UCI Calendar which the UCI has kindly sent me. To clear up several misconceptions about the classification system here is are the schedules. I will add to them as time passes.

UCI Event Classes

The Event Classes are as follows: 

 CM  - World Championships
 CDM - World Cup
 CN  - National Championships
 JO  - Olympic Games
 SC  - Super Calendar
 CC  - Continental Championships
 GT  - Grand Tours
 JR  - Regional Games

All other events are then defined by event type and class of participant. The first number in the category denotes the event type and the second number denotes the class of participant. 

 Event Types:

 1 One day events
 2 Stage races

 Class of Participant:

 1 to 6		Men Elite
 7.1 and 7.2	Men Under 23
 8		Men Junior
 9.1 and 9.2	Women Elite
 10		Women Junior
 11		Masters (Men and Women)
So a Cat 2.3 race is now easily discerned to be an Elite Men's stage race, whereas a Cat 1.8 would be a One Day Junior Men's race.
