Stage 20 Brief:In a reflective mood following the ITT, Jan Ullrich has admitted to a flawed preparation for this year's Tour and acknowledged that he has been burnt by them. He humbly said he would not repeat them. He has signalled a new era where the work ethic will replace the partying. He told the press: "It is too early to say whether I would do this or that but I don't rule out anything, not even the world championships. I'm planning to take part in a number of World Cup races and maybe even stage races. I shall make my decision in three or four weeks, depending on my form.The final comment was reference to the fact that he may now start in the Tour of Spain, along with Marco Pantani who is now aiming to clinch all three national tours in the same year. Ullrich, who had little hard preparation for the Tour, only had one bad day when he lost close to 9 minutes on the first stage in the Alps. If that had not have occurred in the striking way it did he would have won this Tour also. He has had three stage wins and said to the press: "I really did my best today. I gave it all I had. But I knew I could not beat Pantani because he had already shown in the Giro he could be good in time trials."
