Race ReportStefano Zanini (Mapei-Bricobì) was the fastest of the breakaway riders at the end of the GP Bruno Beghelli, which is officially known as the (46th) Milano-Vignola, a Cat 1.4 event over 200 kms. When the riders reached the circuit at Monteveglio, 27 kms from the finish, there was an attack by Malberti with Paolo Valoti, Zanini and Hamburger going with him. Then another group with Bettini, Axelsson, and Stangelj, with Mazzanti, Elli and Gasperoni further back. They all joined up and the move proved to be the decisive one. Even the attempts by Ballerini, Roscioli, Baronti and Vergnani to bridge the gap proved unsuccessful. In the closing kms, Hamburger and Elli attacked but Zanini was able to cover every move they made. He was helped by the Cantina Tollo pair (Valoti and Mazzanti) and Asics-CGA pair (Bettini & Malberti). Zanini took the final sprint easily, taking his third win of the season. He already has won a stage at the Three Days of La Panne and he recently was the victor at Paris-Brussels. Milano - Vignola, 200 kms:1. Stefano Zanini (Ita) Mapei-Bricobi 5.07.08 (39.081) 2.
