BriefPeter Trkman from Slovenia is reporting on the International Oberosterreich GP U-23 which is also known as Linz-Passau-Budweis. It is a 2.7.1 event and runs from September 4-6.Brian Stephens, Australian team manager (U-23) also reports that a lot of countries have their national under 23 squads here preparing for the World Championships. The race is based near Linz Austria and goes into both Germany and Czech Republic. The first 2 days have 2 stages each and the 3rd day is one longer stage. Stage 1, Bad Leonfelden - Aigen, 98 kms:First stage today was over undulating terrain and as it was relatively short, it was ridden at a hard pace. A group of 3 went clear with 25km to go and one was dropped soon after leaving the Italian Rizzi and the Valjavec from Slovenia to fight out the finish. Rizzi attacked in the final kilometer to take the stage and the leaders jersey. The Aussies were in everything but the finish.

Kris Denham (Aus) Australian National 0.46 Stage 2, Schlogl - Bad Leonfelden, 72 kms:The 2nd stage went better for us. A group of 14 went away after 20km including Daniel Trinne. Even though there was an Italian in the break it put the pressure on them to chase. They couldn't close the gap to the hard working group so the Italian in the break dropped back to help. They almost closed it but 6 riders from the break kicked away again and the Italians cracked. Another 3 riders made it across to the break making it 9. Daniel sprinted well but failed narrowly in his attempt to beat the German.

Baden Cooke (Aus) Australian National 2.12 Stage 3, Linz - Passau, 96.8 kms:The 3rd stage from Linz to Passau was held under grey skys and with cooler temperature. With 4 breakaways being caught just coming into the 200 meters things looked good for a bunch sprint but a crash near the front of the chase bunch spoiled that and the chances of Baden Cooke and Daniel Trinne. For some reason the commissaires decided to time the gap which formed between the guys in front of and the guys behind the crash. The Italians, Swedes, Sloveniens and the Australians (via Brian Stephens) protested and the protest was upheld and the times changed.
