BriefLuxembourg amateur Benoît Joachim, riding for the mixed Luxembourg-German team won the 5th stage over 219 km between Château-Chinon and Pontarlier after a long escape. Three riders, Benoît Joachim,Igor Flores and David Berthoux (French University Champion) attacked after only 2 kms into the stage and two of them stayed away for 217 kms. At the 136 kms mark they had a lead of 16.40. At that moment Flores was the virtual GC leader (on the road) having been sitting at 7.45 at the start of the stage. The peloton started to react then.Berthoux could not stay with his breakaway companions and was dropped on the last difficulty that the stage offered - the côte de Cernans. The peloton was by this time storming home, but they could not catch Benoît Joachim and Igor Flores. The former won the sprint. Jean-Patrick Nazon who is currently leading the points classification won the bunch sprint for third some 2.19 down. The GC remained unchanged at the top however with Peter Wuyts leading.
