1997 Results

Brief:

Steven De Jongh, Johan Verstrepen and Roger Hammond attacked early and built a five minute gap. No-one really thought that the peloton would regain contact with them. But then bad luck struck - a car crashing head on into a freight wagon. It delayed them for 3 minutes and that was enough to ruin their winning chances. In the last lap, a mass sprint was becoming inevitable. With some great work by TVM's De Jongh, Peter Van Petegem won the sprint.
