Kristof Trouvé (Bel) Vlaanderen 2002 0.11 Brief The Estonians are the winners from the first stage of the Tour de l'Oise cycliste, with Lauri Aus and Jan Kirsipuu taking the double for Casino. In the first of three stages which finish on Sunday afternoon, it was Lauri Aus who was the strong man. He attacked in the final stages, a little more than 4 kms from the finish, and quickly built a lead of 12 seconds. He held on grimly to the peloton which was being regulated by Kirsipuu in front of the Swede Magnus Backstedt (GAN) Aus, aged 27, chalked up the 36th win for Casino this season, and his second personal victory, the first being at the Classic Haribo in February. He turned professional in 1995 with Mutuelle de Seine-et-Marne, and last year joined the team of Vincent Lavenu. There were many attacks during this stage, notably from Cofidis (Gaumont, Saugrain, F. Moreau), and they enlivened the 188.5 kms stage. The average speed was more than 44 km/h. The Casino team, favourites at the start in Creil, pushed Gilles Bouvard to take his chance some 40 kms before the end. The French rider built up a 1.30 advantage but he was caught just before the last lap of the finishing circuit 18 kms from the end. In the sprint, Kirsipuu dominated with Backstedt, the revelation of the last Paris-Roubaix (7th) third. Damien Nazon, who hit a car on the course and finished with several contusions. On Sunday there are two stages on the program. In the morning, the riders face 101 kms between Compiègne and Beauvais and then inthe afternoon they ride from Beauvais to Creil over 99.5 kms. Brief Casino dominated the Tour de l'Oise cycliste, winning the final GC courtesy of their Kazak rider Kazakh Alexandre Vinokourov, as well as taking each of the three stages. Vinokourov won the second stage in the morning to Beauvais, with a 12 second gap in front of the rest. In the afternoon, French Champion Stéphane Barthe won a mass sprint into Creil. Estonian rider Lauri Aus (Casino) won the first stage. This coup put Lauri Aus into second place in the final GC and takes the number of victories for the Casino team to 39 for the season. Barthe said afterwards: This is our team. We have transformed it." At 24 years old, Vinokourov, is an impressive young man, who has enriched the young team after the successes in the Circuit des Mines and also the Quatre Jours de Dunkerque. Directeur sportif Laurent Biond said "He will have a rest now and then we hope to do well in the Classique des Alpes and the Dauphiné but it is still questionable if he will ride the Tour de France."
