Brief

Spanish cyclist Juan Carlos Domínguez was the winner of the 13th edition of la Clásica Internacional de Alcobendas, which attracted some major riders including the team from Vitalicio Seguros. Vitalicio Seguros set the tempo for the race from the start and commentators likened it to a chess game with manager Javier Mínguez moving his pawns perfectly to get Domínguez up for the final 'check mate'.

There were many attacks from the start, with riders from Vitalicio going in all of them, until Russian Zintchenko and Domínguez were left alone in front after getting over the more difficult sections of the race. Domínguez was able to drop his breakaway companion with 30 kms to the finish, although his move had started way before during the climb of Canencia, a Category 2 acsent. Once this climb was completed a group of about 12 formed, including Domínguez, who at km 150, after the climb of the Category 3, alto de San Pedro, went away for the win, even though the riders from Euskaltel and ONCE gave chase. Dominguez had a maximum advantage of 3 minutes, with 6 kms to the finish and was never threatened despite the fast finish from the chasing riders in Euskaltel and ONCE.
