On the first of two climbs (Jamnik) Hvastija (Cantina Tollo) initiated the break, 3 riders followed: Bonca, Stangelj, Valjavec. Bonca punctured and fell on the descent, the other 3 cooperated until the final climb: Smarjetna gora, which is short (2 km) but very steep (up to 16%). On that climb Stangelj got rid of first Valjavec and then Hvastija and comfortably won the stage, giving him the 3rd win and his team Krka the 17th win of the season (not a bad improvement after 0 wins last year). Tomorrow is the last stage, a lap race around Kranj. With the help of his team Stangelj should defend his jersey.

Peter Trkman, our Slovenian reporter writes that early on in the final stage, 9 riders escaped from the peloton (Hvastija, Stangelj, Mondini, Filip, Pintaric, Sironi, Valjavec, Colage, and Gimondi). Hvastija fell (the fall looked very similar to the one of Scott Sunderland in Amstel Gold) but luckily with no serious consequences. He managed to regain contact with the others with the help of teammate Colage. On the climb of the second last lap Hvastija attacked and only Stangelj followed. In the sprint Hvastija showed his sprinting superiority.
