Ninove Kermesse, NE

Belgium, July 30, 1998

Brief:

The first 30 kms was raced like the Wednesday Tour stage. 30 km/h maximum. It was an act of solidarity with the Tour riders. The public understood and expressed their support. But it wasn't long after that that the race was on fire. Marc Wauters and Johan Verstrepen were the riders who started the action. The peloton was broken up and then a final group of 12 riders formed after an attack by Cretskens. With 20 kms to go Peter Van Petegem attacked from the leading group to take his third win for the season, after winning the Omloop Het Volk and a criterium in Bonn.
