Max van Heeswijk to Mapei

According to the Dutch Newspaper De Telegraaf Max van Heeswijk (Rabobank) will ride next year for the Mapei team. He is very disappointed that he is not riding the Tour de France for Rabobank this year.

Andrea Noč, will leave Asics-CGA and also ride for Mapei-Bricobě in 1999. Giorgio Squinzi's new team will also include Fred Rodriguez, the American sprinter, of Colombian origin who was riding with Team Saturn in the US.

Stefano Della Santa (Ros Mary-Amica Chips) is training five hours a day already and could return to racing in September. The Tuscan had a suffered a serious injury at la Vuelta Valenciana and even feared that he would lose the right foot, but it is OK afer the last test by Dr. Simonetto at the Villa Aprica di Como clinic.

British tandem sprint championship

Yesterday's British tandem sprint championship was won for the eighth time by Pete Boyd, riding with his new partner Neil Campbell of Team Brite. They beat a team from the Scunthorpe Poly CC, and third place went to British (solo) sprint champion Alwyn MacMath, who enjoyed his first ever tandem race (especially the bit where he did half a lap pinned to the rail at the top of the track!).
