ReportThe 9th and final round of the SuperPrestige Trophy was staged in Harnes, France on Sunday. 31-year old Italian and 1997 World Champion Daniele Pontoni, was ruled out of the race due to a broken collarbone which he sustained in a freak accident on the finishing line in the World Championship race in Middelfart last weekend in Denmark. The real interest was the tussle for the Trophy and the major loser out of the World's race last week, Dutchman and World Cup series winner, Richard Groenendaal confirmed he was the rider of 1997-98 by winning the last race and the overall Super Prestige competition. The Rabobank rider won by 10 seconds from fellow Dutchman Adri van der Poel. The two Dutch riders, who have dominated Cyclo Cross this season, except for the disastrous performances by both of them in last weekend's world championships, rode away from the peloton from the beginning. In the final sections of the race, Groenendaal attacked with Van der Poel unable to stay with him. Belgian's Peter van Santvliet came third at 1.37. Results1.
