Brief

Alessandro Rota from Milan won the 74th edition of the Coppa San Geo in a sprint. This race is the first in the elite and under-23 season. The race was set on fire with an attack at the 31 kms mark by the Belgian, Cris De Coen, who at one stage had a lead of 2 minutes. There were succcessive attacks then by Paolo Bossoni (Sintofarm) and Roberto Fortunato (Mbm Rosa). The race came together again at the 110 km mark.

In the finale, around a circuit in Vestone there were attacks and counter-attacks. Rota went in the last 80 metres and won from Chesini and Gualdi. The victorious Milanese dedicated his success to the memory of his former director sportif Ennio Piscina.

The next race, on Sunday, begins at Bresciano and is for the Trofeo Mamma e Papà Cioli.
