Skandisloppet

Sweden, August 16, 1998

Brief:

Tomas Nilsson, who reports for www.cyclingnews.com from Scandinavia writes that Skandisloppet in Uppsala, Sweden, has been staged every year since 1909, and is one of the longest running races in the world. This year's race was spiced by many of the U23 cyclists from the European Championships held in Uppsala the day before. It was also the final race in the Swedish Cup.

In the Men’s 153 kms race four riders managed to escape on the second of three final 4 km laps in Uppsala. Polish rider Marcin Sapa won the sprint. In the Women’s race Diana Ziliute had a chance to get revenge for the Saturday's loss to Susanne Ljungskog, who nationally races alone for Hisingens CK. But Susanne managed to win the bunch sprint anyway av Ziliute came in as seventh.
