Brief:

In the finale, there were two riders coming into site. Riders in full flight. The race announcer was bringing the Eurode Omloop to a climax. Out of the loudspeaker came: "Here they come ladies and gentleman. D'Hollander and Thijs They are getting ready to sprint. Who will win?" The public were getting ready for the sprint but saw the two Belgian riders pass the finish line hand-in-hand.

Glenn D'Hollander was not the strongest rider in Kerkrade on Sunday but the youngest of the two and without a win for this year. This led his 23-year old teammate from Vlaanderen 2002 Erwin Thijs to share the victory with him. In an unspoken truce, the two Belgians shared the win. At the end, Erwin Thijs (28) could smile because he had the personal glory. From an earlier breakaway group of 6 only he and D'Hollander remained and they worked together for 130 odd kms. Thijs told the press afterwards: "He said he was not fresh. Either of us could have won. But I gave Glenn a chance to win. I have already two wins this season, and up until now he had none."
