BriefThe Grand Prix Pino Cerami returned after being cancelled in 1997. The last time it was held in 1996, Italian Marco Serpellini took the prize. The Italian riding now for the Brescialat-Liquigas team repeated this triumph beating fellow Italian Biagio Conte by 16 seconds with Australian Scott Sunderland coming in third.Serpellini was the animator of all the attacks for the race. After 115 kms, a group of 15 attacked which include Serpellini, Biagio Conte, Scott Sunderland, Casagranda, Valoti, Milesi and Mazzoleni. With 25 kms to go, Conte, Serpellini and Scotty broke away and drove for the finish. With 3 kilometers to go to the finish in Wasmuel, in Wallonia, Serpellini anticipated the finale beautifully and dropped Conte and Scott. Wasmuel, 199.6 kms:1.
