2003 Team rostersSavage Hill Cycling TeamThe Columbus, Ohio Savage Hill Cycling Team has announced its new roster and a new bike sponsor in the shape of Orbea USA. The team's focus for 2003 will include the Ohio Valley Racing Spring Series, Tour Ohio, Ohio Grand Prix Series, Indiana Race Series, Hoosier Cup, The International, Wendy's International, as well as many other Midwestern and regional events. Orbea USA has joined with Stock Consulting to support The Savage Hill Cycling Team's amateur racing campaign in the Midwest. The 2003 roster includes a host of Category 3 standouts, as well as a wealth of Masters and Espoir racers. Since its inception four years ago, the Savage Hill Cycling Team has established itself as a recognized and competitive force in the Midwest amateur racing scene. In 2002, Savage Hill recorded impressive results, including 17 first-place and 70 top-5 finishes. The focus for 2003 will include: Ohio Valley Racing Spring Series, Tour Ohio, Ohio Grand Prix Series, Indiana Race Series, Hoosier Cup, The International, Wendy's International, as well as many other Midwestern and regional events. The majority of the team has selected Orbea's premier Columbus-tube XLR8R carbon frameset to race this season. According to Espoir Jon Chelboun the Orbea XLR8R is "hands down the best bike I have ever ridden. It handles like a true racing machine, and it climbs great too. The compact geometry and the shaped Columbus aluminum give it great lateral stiffness." Orbea is a relatively new name to the US bicycle market. However, Orbea has been handcrafting quality bicycles in the Basque region of Spain for decades. "Orbea was almost as excited as we were," stated Chris Fisher, team founder. "They were happy to help our team develop young riders and advocate safe, responsible riding and racing in central Ohio." In addition to dominating the Midwest, many Savage Hill riders devote training time to help developing riders and charitable organizations. In conjunction with Columbus Outdoor Pursuits, masters' racer Todd Lee teaches classes to orient new riders to the dynamics of group riding and racing.
