Santa Cruz Spokesman

The Santa Cruz Spokesman has announced its cycling team roster for the 2003 racing season. As in previous years, the team says 2003 will see it focus on its goal of fostering young riders to become the professionals of the future. With a core group of Elite & Espoir Men and Women, the team will focus on major Northern California events, West Coast NRC events, Men's and Women's Elite, Espoir and Masters Nationals, as well as the Northern California district championships.

Over the past three years, since its inception, the Santa Cruz Spokesman has fostered eight riders from the amateur to professional ranks. Among these athletes are Damon Kluck (US Postal Service), Ben & Andy Jacques-Maynes (Sierra Nevada/Clif Bar), Lionel Syne (Webcor) and Meredith Miller (Team SATS).

The Santa Cruz Spokesman has high expectations for some of the young team members, including the 2002 Collegiate National Road and Cyclo-Cross champion, Kate Maher and 2002 Collegiate Team Time Trial member, Roman Kilun.

For 2003, the Santa Cruz Spokesman is excited to continue to have The Spokesman Bicycles as the principal sponsor, along with returning major sponsor Capitola Carpet & Vinyl. The Santa Cruz Spokesman is also delighted that it will again be teaming up with Specialized, as its major product sponsor.
