BMW - Bianchi Women's Cycling Team

BMW has joined with Bianchi USA and the Capital Cycling Club of North Carolina to form the BMW-Bianchi Women's Cycling Team. Composed of talented riders from the Southeastern US, the team has exciting plans to leave its mark the Eastern Seaboard's race scene.

"With the generous support of BMW and Bianchi, our team will be able to build on our fantastic 2004 season. Patty Shoaf, Mandy Lozano, Cara McCauley, and myself are back for the elite team, and we added a valuable criterium racer and sprinter in Master's National Pursuit Champion and dual Elite Track Nationals medalist, Nancy Lux", said team manager Laura Weislo. "Our elite team will take on the best of the regional races and an aggressive schedule of east coast NRC criteriums and our favourite PCT races, the Liberty Classic in Philadelphia and the New York City Criterium.

"Equally as important as our elite team is our new developmental team, which will be headed up by 2003 Master's National bronze medalist Janet Edgerton (Developmental Director), and joined by Daniele Staskal who finished fourth in the 2004 Cyclocross Collegiate Nationals, Riina Tehver, Katharine Carroll and Jessica Ables. I expect that our three's will surprise themselves this season - they're all incredibly strong and will be critical for success in local races. We're certain to have some new elite riders before the end of the season!" The new developmental program will also include eight new category 4 racers.

The team has started off the 2005 season with a win in Greenville, SC in March and another at the Rock Hill Patriot's Trail Road Race this past weekend. In both races, it was Patty Shoaf who led the way by outsprinting her breakaway companions. Top ten results have also come from Mandy Lozano, Nancy Lux, Katharine Carroll, Daniele Staskal, Janet Edgerton and Cara McCauley and category 4 riders Tina Weiler, Kelly McLaughlin, and Carol Rockett in the first races of the season.
