Fullana and Trujillo win second round

The day started out foggy in St. Gregori in Girona, Spain, where the second round of the Open de España Maxxis was contested. Over the day, the fog lifted, little by little, and Margarita Fullana (Massi-Illes Balears) and Juan Pedro Trujillo (Cemelorca-Seguros10.com) went on to take victories in the elite women's and men's races.
Fullana led the first lap of the elite women's race and was soon followed by Anna Villar (Massi). The two would hold their places throughout the race with Fullana winning by 3'24" over Villar. Ruth Moll (Toscaf BH Suntour) finished third and Miranda Agusti (Basoli Derbi) was the fastest junior women of the day.
In the elite men's race, Juan Pedro Trujillo (Cemelorca-Seguros10.Com) won 38 seconds ahead of Martí Gispert Labarta (ECP-Tau Ceramica) and 50 seconds in front of Alejandro Díaz De La Peña (C.C.Tierra De Barros-Specialized). The elite men raced with the senior men and U23 racers. Jose Juan Marrase (Progress-OKI-Cycling Team) took top honors in the senior category and David Lozano (Msc Bikes Team) was the fastest U23 for the day. Joan Marc Perarnau (Massi) and Sergio Pulido (Cemelorca-Seguros10.Com) rounded out the U23 podium.

Adria Noguera (Fornells BTT) won the cadet race after duelling with Carlos Sabadell (Tot Bici La Palma). In the junior men's race, Eduardo Recasens (Massi) won by 28 seconds over Umbert Almenara (Freebike St Jordi) and over five minutes ahead of Francesc Guerra (Dr.Bike Racing).
Xavier Carnicer (Massi) won the masters 30+ race with Josep Betalu (Progress-OKI-Cycling Team) and Jose Luis Parra (Cemelorca-Seguros10.Com) in second and third. Manuel Rojo (Dr.Bike Granada CD) won the veterans category.
The third round of the series heads to Cordova on June 8.
