Pascal and Moseley win Maxxis Cup
Frenchman Mikael Pascal (Qbikes-Saab-Salomon) took the win with a time of 2.14.474 ahead of Australian Michael Hannah (Cannondale-The Cut) and compatriot Florent Payet (SsangYong-fusion Team). Payet's finish guaranteed him a spot on the French World Championship team.
In the women's race, Great Britian's Tracy Moseley (Kona Les Gets Factory Team) defeated Australian Tracey Hannah (Cairns Cycle Club) and New Zealander Jennifer Makgill (SsangYong-fusion Team) with a time of 2.35.640. Makgill overcame mechanical problems with her wheel on both runs, but still rode strong for her third.
Team Ssang-Yong-fusion was having a good weekend in Montgenèvre. Young Australian James Maltman capped off a notable weekend for the team with a win in the junior category. Racing against the likes of Pascal, Hannah and Matti Lehikoinen, Maltman powered his way to 15th overall, but within the junior category, he finished ahead of second placed local French rider Kevin Danh Pha and third placed New Zealander Mattheu Scoles.
"James has developed so well this year under some pretty trying circumstances . He is showing the kind of form that we think would have seen him pushing for the Junior World Cup Title had the chips fallen a little more in his direction. He is training hard at the moment for the World Championships, so this is a great result at the right time in the season," said Ssang Yong-fusion Team Director, Gavin Donehue.
