East takes first ever pro win

Racing Sunday at Kohitere Forest was on a mixture of open 4WD tracks and tight single track through pine forest. This course is the most technical of the five races in the National Series - a high 60%. (riders must concentrate on 60% of the course). There were some steep ascents and fast down hills proving too much for many competitors who did not finish the race.
Pro Elite Men had to complete six laps with each lap being 5.8km long and the Pro Elite Women had five laps.
Wayne Hiscock (Upper Hutt) started strongly and lead for the first four laps and eventually finished 7th. Jason Clement (Levin, National Champ 2002) was in second position coming into the second lap, but had a mechanical problem and dropped back to 6th before being lapped out in the last lap. Stuart Houltham (Taupo) had a great race and finished second in a time of 1:58:41 - just under a minute and a half from Andrew East (Auckland) who won his first ever Pro elite race in one hour 57 mins 17 secs. He was absolutely delighted!
Stuart Houltham is currently leading the points table followed by Jason Clement and Wayne Hiscock is third.
The Manchester silver medallist Susy Pryde (Auckland) lead all the way in the Pro Elite women's race and won by just over two minutes in a time of 1:57:16 from Sadie Parker-Wynard (Auckland)1:59:20. Rebecca Cullen (Nelson) had another strong race finishing in third only three and a half minutes behind Pryde. Ingrid Allsop-Bell (Auckland) rode well, utilising her downhill skills she managed to follow 2002 National Series winner Robyn Wong (4th) (Wellington) for most of the race and finished in 5th.
Rebecca Cullen (2002 National Champion) leads the Pro-Elite women with two races to go. Ingrid Allsop-bell lies in second and Brenda Clapp of Nelson is third. Susy Pryde is in 9th position and Sadie Parker-Wynard is 6th.
Sam Bewley (junior men, Rotorua) crashed into a gate at the practice day Saturday and fractured his elbow. He is now in plaster and there is concern whether he will be able to compete at the Oceania Championships in Australia in February.
