Stage 6 - February 3: Granville Harbour, 22 km

Double for Taberley, Patterson still unbeaten

Wildside MTB continued today on the west coast of Tasmania with riders heading through to Spray Tunnel and Granville Harbour.

After day three the event is starting to take its toll with desperate riders in some cases carrying broken bikes and injured limbs over the line and others not finishing.

Stage five proved a real gut wrencher with riders faced with a steady 5km uphill climb, which gave no respite. Granville Harbour is one of the more technically difficult stages challenging competitors with a consistent undulating track, passing unbelievable coastal scenery on the journey. The mild sea breeze gave riders some relief easing the hot, dry and dusty conditions.

The Spray Tunnel section saw the only time trial of Wildside MTB with Sid Taberlay (TAS) yet again making his mark in beating his previous year's record, completing the stage in just 12 minutes and 33 seconds. Paul Rowney (NSW) was no where to be seen as Taberlay continued his winning streak, easily taking out both stages for the day. Sid Taberlay is set up nicely to win the race outright.

The young guns in the game Trent Lowe (VIC) and Peter Hatton (NSW) both placed well with Lowe coming in third in stage five and Hatton second in stage six.

Tassie girl, Eleanor Patterson is having a dream run, now winning all six stages.

In the womens under 23 section Julie Borschmann (VIC) is a competitor not to be beaten.

Wildside MTB winds up tomorrow with the final challenge leaving from Strahan, taking riders to Hells Gates and back, the ultimate adventure.
