Ninety riders from all states of Australia headed out on the new cross country course. The fiercest competition came in the elite men and U/23 division with Rowney, 33, dominating the seven lap race. "The young guys give me a bit of 'stick' out training but it was good to come out and give them a bit of a hiding," said Rowney. Rowney took the fastest lap of the day with a 15.49 in the third of seven laps. A sprint for second place saw Perren Delacour narrowly beat Peter Hatton, 19 who had secured ample points in the 5 earlier races to take out the Overall Series win. Murray Spinks from Manly came into the final in second place but his withdrawal allowed Rowney's teammate, Aiden Lefmann to swap series positions and finish second overall. Mountain bike's glamour girl and series leader Niki Gudex won the won the elite women's race in 1.27.09. She led Gold Coast's Sharon Heap by eight minutes with Lynne Robinson from Bowral in third. The overall standings saw Gudex , Robinson in second and Maria Papadopolous in third. Local Gold Coast riders faired well with Jack Weitenberg winning Masters 3 and 4, Alan Mumford, taking the Masters 5 win but without enough points to secure a series win. The U/15 Series win went to Gold Coast's Zac McAnally with teammate Daniel Hallam third.
