Kinning wins NPS round one

By Shane Stokes

XMTB rider Glen Kinning survived a late charge by Aiden McDonald (Apollo Cycling Team) to win the first round of the National Points Series in Big Wood in Newry yesterday. Kinning went clear at the start of the six lap event and was closely pursued by Don Travers (Banbridge) until the latter crashed on the third lap. McDonald then took over as the main threat, gradually reducing his one and a half deficit to eventually finish 21 seconds down.

Organiser's Report

Apollo Cycling Team promoted the first round of the National Points Series in Big Wood in Newry yesterday. A excellent field from all over the country turned up to race a new course.

Victory went to Glen Kinning (XMTB) from Belfast who led the race from the start. The win was never too secure though with Don Travers from Banbridge hot on his heels until a fall on lap three, then powerful finisher Aiden McDonald made up a huge deficet of 1 minute 35 on lap 1 to finish only 21 seconds behind Kinning at the flag.

Another great display of power was shown by Beth McCluskey (first female) who would also have finished third in the sports race won by down hill champion Glin O'Brien from Newry.
