Racing cancelled after marshall's death

Organizers of round one cancelled racing following the unexpected death of 61 year-old John Harrison from Kidderminister near Birmingham in England. Harrison was volunteering as a marshal for the weekend. After being dropped off at his post, he collapsed and died soon after despite best efforts of medics to attend him.

His family suspects natural causes of his death; however, practice was postponed while police attended the incident. Following a meeting with British Cycling officials and Alpine Bikes, the day's riding was cancelled. Out of respect for Mr. Harrison, Sunday's race was replaced with an open practice with the medics, marshals and BC Commissaires still in place.

Harrison was the father of one of the junior racers.
