NZ National Series Cross Country #2 - E2

Houltham and Wong repeat wins
A great day was had at Round two of the Cross Country event at the Mountain Bike Park on the west edge of Wanganui on Sunday 11th January. This hard and fast course, on a series of benched single tracks through pine and gum trees, had a 6.5km circuit length with the Pro-Elite men completing 6 laps and Pro-Elite women 5.
Stuart Houltham (Taupo) the 2003 National Series Winner and 2003 National Champ has taken his second win in the 2004 Subaru Series in a time of 2hrs 02mins 50secs with second place to Michael Northcott of Mangakino only 51 seconds behind! The south islander Marcus Roy (Te Anau) came in third (2hrs 05mins 35 secs).
Once again Robyn Wong of Wellington took first position in the Pro-Elite Women's competition in a time of 1 hr 58mins 41 secs from Sadie Parker-Wynyard (Auckland, 2hrs 25secs). Third went to Sonia Foote of Rotorua 2hrs 02mins 24secs.
Round three of the 2004 Subaru National Mountain Bike Series is doubling as the Oceania Championships so fierce competition the events will include riders from Australia and New Calendonia. On the 24 January is the Downhill competition and Sunday 25 January is the Cross Country, both to be held in the Whakarewarewa Forest.
Rotorua also will hold the New Zealand Hill Climb Championships on Friday 23 January and the Oceania 4X Championships on Monday 26th January.
