Bookwalter walks on water after dual titles

Slingshot Factory Cycling Team member, Brent Bookwalter, managed two outstanding performances at the NCCA National Mountain Bike Championships, claiming both the Men"s Division 2 Cross Country Race and the Men"s Division 2 Short Track Race.
"I've been looking forward to this weekend for a long time," said Bookwalter, a student at Lees-McRae College. "Over the past couple of years I just missed the stars and stripes jersey, so I knew that the collegiate title was definitely within my reach," he added.
Moments after winning the Short Track race, Bookwalter discovered he had sliced his ankle on the chain ring, and twisted some tendons, in a crash that occurred in the final lap. Hungry for another title Bookwalter still opted to compete in the cross country race the following day, despite his injury and the advice of the doctor who stitched him up.
"Ten minutes into the race I was hurting, but I was riding out of the top five - and I knew that I had to be patient. By the top of the six mile climb, I had moved into second, behind the rider I had beat out the day before. And after yo-yo-ing on-and-off of the other rider for the next lap, I was able to attack him at the top of the climb. With one lap to go, I had a one minute lead - and was able to eventually extend my lead to over three minutes, for my second win of the weekend, with a time of 2'25.15," said Bookwalter.
After taking a brief rest, to heal up his ankle, Bookwalter plans on diving into the cyclocross season, and preparing for the Iceman.
