Race 2 - May 17: Mountain cross/Four-cross

Carter & Kintner conquer

By Kristy Scrymgeour

Eric Carter (Mongoose Hyundai) and Jill Kintner (Staats Fox) came out on top today in the finals of the Mountain Cross event at Big Bear both showing their speed out of the blocks, giving them clean runs to the finish.

In the men's event, Carter, unhappy with his qualifying position, made sure that he started with a good jump earning him perfect position to take the lead. Behind him Neal Wood (Tioga Orange), Chris Powell (Profile Racing) and Brian Lopez (GT Hyundai) had trouble negotiating a tight turn, giving Carter an extra advantage. Lopes managed to get around a fallen Wood and back in second place for the finish.

In the women's race it was up to Kintner, Katrina Miller (Jamis Bicycles), Tracey Mosely (Kona) and Tara Llanes (Giant Pearl Izumi) to battle it out on the slopes. Like Carter, Kintner got the foot in on the other three with a great start and followed through to the finish to take the win. Behind Llanes edged out Australian Miller to take second place and Mosely came in to take 4th.

Tomorrow features the Short Track and Downhill events.
