Stage 2 - June 2: Frammersbach - Bischofsheim, 82.89 km

Team Mayer-Stevens fastest in finish sprint

Team Texpa-Simplon keeps yellow jersey

After racing the first 60 to 70 kilometres of the 82.9km stage two at a gentle pace, the finale would be decided in a sprint finish with Wilko Rochow and Steffen Thum (Team Mayer Stevens) coming out on top in 3:07.37. Two seconds later, Alexander Miano and Thomas Nicke (Fiat-Rotwild-Seeberger) finished second and Team Texpa-Simplon's Lukas Gerum and Roland Golderer rounded out the podium in third.

Due to their third place finish, Gerum and Golderer were able to keep hold of the overall lead. Both are now about four minutes ahead of today's fifth placed CRAFT & Friends / Team Bianchi consisting of Martin Kraler and Thomas Dietsch.

The day's winners had lost about 11.5 minutes yesterday during stage one, but had fresher legs as a result. "In the beginning, everybody took it pretty easy. We were a leading group of approximately 20 teams. At the last three climbs, more and more of them were falling behind. After the last descent when only two other pairings were left, we just pushed the pedal and kind of had the most power left," said Rochow. "Taking it a little bit more relaxed yesterday paid off. But that we finished first is a big surprise."

Overall co-leader Gerum was also pleased with his result: "We are taking it day by day, with everyone in the Yellow Jersey as a bonus. Today, it was just going well for us due to the low speed as we invested a lot yesterday. It was just perfect for us."

Last year's women's winners get first win

Last year's ladies' winners took their first stage win, but it was a close decision. Danish sisters Anna-Sofie and Kristine Norgaard of Team Cube WLS secured the stage win in 3:27.39 hours, just one second ahead of the women's classification leaders Team Rocky Mountain's Alison Sydor and Pia Sundstedt. In third was the German-French connection of Team Fiat-Rotwild Damen with Kerstin Brachtendorf and Danièle Troesch.

After their triumph, Kristine Norgaard was all smiles, "Today, it was a lot of fun. This is our main goal for the next days, too. It was funny to see all the men going crazy because we were leaving them behind."

With today's victory in the masters' category, Milan Spolc and Robert Novotny (Sachsenmasters) took home a second win and enlarged their winning streak of 2007 and 2008 up to ten out of ten. Their main competitors are Ralph and Timo Berner of Team Erbach – im Odenwald, which again finished second (3:18.09) but lost some more 7.5 minutes on the team in the blue leader jerseys. Team Schoeneck with Heiko Gessner and Bernd Weinhold once again rounded out the podium in third (3:20.12).

Tandem team Sachsen Land von Welt consisting of Matthias Mende and former biathlon ace Katja Beer brought home a stage two victory for the mixed category with a time of 3:33.39. Jakub Blaha and Milena Landtwing of Team Bergstrasse/Velo-Franz and the pairing Seeberger with Sam Baeten and Agnes Naumann finished second and third.

In the super masters category, Long Time Bikers' Ferdi Koller and Ueli Schuermann from Switzerland jumped on the first spot of the podium after yesterday's third place. Green-clad current leaders Frankenpower's Klaus Dumler and Harald Hoehn came in second ahead of Manfred Ertl and Georg Schollerer of Quest

Stage three: June 3: Bischofsheim - Oberhof, 94.60 km

In the beginning, racers will be treated to a panoramic views by the Heidelstein (920 m above sea level) and on the Hochrhoenstraße. From Fladungen, racers will take on gravel roads to the border to Thuringia where teams will hit the Rhoen- Rennsteig, the Hohe Geba and the Dolmar. After those three tough climbs, they'll finish with a climb to Oberhof.
