MTB index page for all MTB content British National DH Series #3 - 2Fort William, Great Britain, July 6, 20082007 Results Results Minnaar and Curd win in Fort WilliamGreg Minnaar (Santa Cruz Syndidate) and Katy Curd (Giant) won round three of the British National Points Series (NPS) Downhill in Fort William. Minnaar took his win with a more than five second margin over second place Ben Cathro (MOJO Orange) and by over 12 seconds ahead of third placed Joe Barnes (MTBcut.Tv/Orange). Minnaar was in Scotland, where he was running one of his Big Air Training Camps, after a week holidaying in Montenegro. Despite the ever-present midges, he took his clients racing. In the seeding run, Minnaar was the only rider to break five minutes, stopping the clock at 4:52.904 seconds with Britain's Marc Beaumont in second with a time right on the five minute mark. "I was aiming for a 4:55 as the track is pretty rough," said Minnaar. "Bob and the course guys have done a massive job getting it sorted after the World Cup, but there's been a bit of rain since then and new holes have formed. I wanted to get down steady and clean, so a 4:52 was a bit of a surprise." Before the final, Minnaar took a couple of training runs in the morning and felt good about the afternoon's competition. In addition to providing plenty of words of encouragement for his training camp riders, aged 13 to 37, he also showed them how to win in the face of technical difficulties. "I busted the clip on one of my pedals on a rock up top and had to spin the pedal with my right foot on more than one occasion to get clipped back in, and was worried I'd lost too much time," said Minnaar. "I knew Ben and Marc would be strong today, so I'm happy for the win." The South African will head home for two weeks before heading to Canada later this month to continue his World Cup campaign. In the women's race, Curd finished in 5:59.019, more than five seconds ahead of Helen Gaskell (Halfords Bike Hut)and 16 seconds ahead of Calamity-Jayne Cann (CF3). Gareth Brewin (Descent World/Santa Cruz) won the junior men's race.
